Hallo alle HR-Freunde,
ich habe Revoleras Idee aufgegriffen und gleichfalls geschrieben. Hier meine email:
Dear Madam, dear Sir,
I am sorry to write in English, but my knowledge of Norwegian is not sufficient for writing this letter.
Over the internet I have received information (a photo, actually,) that your company has started to paint „HURTIGRUTEN“ in giant letters on the sides of your ships. Is this true? Are you planning to do this with all the ships of the HR fleet? I am greatly worried!
It is the style of Ferryship companies (e.g. COLOR-LINE, SILJA-LINE and others) to paint their name in giant letters on the sides of their Ferry Ships. But, fortunately, Hurtigruten is NOT a ferryboat company, and your ships are NOT ferries. Need I tell YOU, how beautiful your ships are? Take, for example, my personal favourite: MS FINNMARKEN. What a wonderful classical shape this ship has! And what a decent color style: black body, red line, and white upper parts. And only the name of the ship on the bow. I dare say that such a ship seen on a photograph of the Norwegian coast is a gain, is a valuable decoration for the landscape. But if you imagine the ship having such a giant inscription on the sides, this will devaluate the ships to advertising posters. Imagine photos of a HR ship leaving Trollfjorden or passing Raftsundet or Geirangerfjorden, the giant inscription HURTIGRUTEN will jump to your eyes and make what could be a phantastic landscape photograph to a mean advertisement. What a shame!
I would like to appeal to your sense of tradition: please, do not do that! You will take away some of the spirit and charme of the Hurtigruten ships if you degrade them to advertisement objects, which is actually not useful at all! I am sure all Norwegian people know their HR ships and do easily recognize that they are belonging to the HR fleet, without such an ugly inscription. And the HR guests and passengers know it, too. Even the birds on the famous rocks know it! So, whom do you need to tell that this is a HURTGRUTEN ship? Nobody, actually! And it will not improve your commercial success! In the contrary, it makes your ships less beautiful.
Please, prevent this to happen!
